Building health with Microgreens: the antioxidant health hack

Do you want to focus on building health or fighting disease? This is as much a daily practice as it is a mindset.

I spent more than a decade caring for people suffering from chronic and acute illness. I am well versed in the medical model which focuses first on fighting disease.

My focus has shifted.

Focussing on wellness

While treatment is important, I believe our first focus should be on WELLNESS.  Wellness is more than the absence of disease.  We must feed our bodies, minds and spirits with that which builds us up.  Human potential is amazing, but it must be nurtured and nourished.

If this is getting a little “woo woo” for you… come back to me! I promise I’m going to get my feet on the ground here and talk about one practical way we can nourish our bodies.  The science is pouring in and while more research is still needed,  we have evidence to support what many people know intuitively.

Microgreens nutrients facts

Eating Microgreens is an amazing way to build health!!  Microgreens contain concentrated nutrients which help our bodies perform optimally.

Studies show that Microgreens are high in the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants we need to maintain a robust immune system.  Microgreens also contain nutrients shown to improve energy, and mental clarity as well as maintain weight.

As more and more research is being done, we are learning that the antioxidants found in Microgreens may also play an important role in preventing heart disease, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and cancer.

Caring for microgreens

A great source of antioxidants

Most of us are familiar with vitamins and minerals, but let’s talk a little more about antioxidants.

Antioxidants help the body eliminate unstable waste molecules known as free radicals.

Free radicals result from both natural bodily processes and environmental pressures, such as pollution. As they build up, they can lead to cell damage. Eventually, this damage may contribute to the development of diseases, such as cancer.

The body can remove some free radicals, but they still accumulate. Antioxidants from foods can help remove more of them. Plant based foods can provide antioxidants. Evidence shows that microgreens have a particularly high antioxidant content.

To summarize

One simple (an enjoyable) way to build on your health is to incorporate antioxidant-rich microgreens into your diet. We’ve all heard the old adage “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. Well… consider making that ounce an ounce of microgreens!
